McDonald Observatory will host a live, virtual astronomy event this week, offering viewers a guided look at some of the universe’s most fascinating compact objects.
The Live Deep Sky Tour: Compact Objects livestream is scheduled for Wednesday, December 17, at 8 p.m. Central Time. The program will be hosted by Saul Rivera and Jaye Smittick at McDonald Observatory, joined by Zoe Hackshaw, a graduate student and astronomer at The University of Texas at Austin.
The livestream will explore compact objects in deep space, with weather permitting allowing for real-time telescope views from one of the world’s premier observatory sites in the Davis Mountains. These tours are designed to make advanced astronomy accessible to the public, blending scientific explanation with live imagery from the night sky.
The event will be streamed live on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, allowing viewers to tune in from anywhere.
McDonald Observatory, operated by The University of Texas at Austin, is internationally recognized for its research and public outreach programs and regularly offers virtual events for audiences unable to attend in person.
