McDonald Observatory will host a live, on-site broadcast of Texas Standard on Friday, December 12, as part of the statewide public radio program’s 10th-anniversary tour.
The show is marking a decade on the air by taking its daily broadcast to notable locations across Texas, highlighting institutions that shape the state’s scientific, cultural, and civic life. The observatory—home to world-class astronomical research and one of the darkest night skies in North America—was selected as one of the featured stops.
Officials at McDonald Observatory said they plan to discuss current research, upcoming public programs, and the unique conditions that make the Davis Mountains a global destination for astronomy.
The visit brings statewide attention to West Texas at a time when interest in dark-sky preservation is growing, and when the observatory continues to expand public education efforts and research partnerships.
Texas Standard broadcasts on public radio stations across Texas and focuses on statewide news, science, culture and public affairs. The live remote from McDonald Observatory will air during the program’s regular mid-day time slot.
