Big Bend Ranch State Park has announced a series of temporary closures affecting interior trails, backcountry camping, and the Sauceda area as part of ongoing wildlife management efforts.
Fort Leaton State Historic Site and the Barton Warnock Visitor Center will remain open during these periods, and river camping along FM 170—as well as certain trails in the corridor—will not be affected.
Park officials encourage visitors to call Fort Leaton at (432) 229-3613 or Barton Warnock at (432) 229-3327 for clarification before planning trips.

5 p.m. Nov. 16 to 2 p.m. Nov. 20 — Youth Mule Deer Hunt 5 p.m. Nov. 30 to 2 p.m. Dec. 4 — Mule Deer Hunt 5 p.m. Jan. 4 to 2 p.m. Jan. 8, 2026 — Quail Hunt 5 p.m. March 31 to 8 a.m. April 9, 2026 — Wildlife Survey
The park notes that these closures are necessary to support habitat stewardship, wildlife monitoring, and safe hunting operations within the interior zone (outlined in red on park maps).
Campsites and trails along FM 170/River Road, Rancherias Loop, and the Contrabando Multi-Use Trail System to Rincon will remain open.
