Border Patrol: Horse Patrol, K9 Units Recover 164 Pounds of Marijuana Near Sierra Blanca

U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Big Bend Sector recovered approximately 164 pounds of marijuana during an operation earlier this week, according to an agency statement posted Thursday.

Border Patrol said agents from the Sierra Blanca Station, along with K9 units, Horse Patrol, and personnel from Air and Marine Operations (AMO), responded to reports of suspicious activity in a remote area. The bundled contraband—carried by pack animals in the photos released—was located and seized without incident.

The agency estimates the marijuana’s value at more than $131,000.

No information was released regarding arrests, suspects, or whether the incident is connected to organized trafficking operations, and the agency did not specify the exact location of the find beyond “a remote area.”

Border Patrol highlighted the joint effort as “another win” in their ongoing enforcement activity across the Big Bend Sector, a region that spans some of the most rugged and sparsely populated terrain along the U.S.–Mexico border.

This is a developing story. More information will be added if additional details are released.
