Borderlands Research Institute Welcomes New Engagement and Activities Coordinator Eliana Goodwin

The Borderlands Research Institute at Sul Ross State University has announced the addition of Eliana Goodwin as its new Engagement and Activities Coordinator, a role focused on strengthening community connections and expanding conservation education across West Texas.

Goodwin, a Sul Ross graduate and former BUMP (Borderlands Undergraduate Mentorship Program) student, has already built a solid foundation in wildlife and habitat conservation. Her experience includes work with desert bighorn sheep, pronghorn, grassland birds, and large-scale habitat restoration projects—hands-on efforts that helped shape her commitment to public outreach and science communication.

Now pursuing a master’s degree in Range and Wildlife Management at Sul Ross, Goodwin will help lead BRI’s efforts to bridge the gap between research and the public through events, educational programs, and collaborative initiatives with community partners.

BRI leadership says her enthusiasm and field experience make her an ideal fit for the organization’s mission to conserve the natural resources of the Chihuahuan Desert Borderlands through research, education, and outreach.
