West Texas Schools Receive Over $1.2 Million in Career Training Grants

Governor Greg Abbott has announced more than $1.2 million in Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) grants to support career and technical training programs across West Texas.

The funding, awarded by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), will help four school districts purchase and install equipment to train over 330 students for high-demand careers such as nursing, welding, and industrial engineering.

“These career training grants will help students discover new career passions, gain the skills they need to enter competitive industries, and further our state’s continued economic growth,” Governor Abbott said.

The four West Texas recipients are:

Culberson County-Allamoore ISD – $265,620 to train 50 registered nursing students in partnership with Odessa College. Denver City ISD – $319,520 to train 141 nursing students in partnership with South Plains College. Iraan-Sheffield Collegiate ISD – $277,101 to train 40 students as welders in partnership with Odessa College. Seagraves ISD – $340,145 to train 100 industrial engineering technicians in partnership with South Plains College.

TWC Chairman Joe Esparza presented the awards at Odessa College, emphasizing that the grants strengthen community partnerships and prepare students for high-demand careers that contribute to local economic growth.
