Audubon Texas range ecologists recently visited Marfa and Alpine to participate in the annual Texas Section Society for Range Management (SRM) meeting.
While in the Big Bend region, the team toured Mimms Ranch, part of the Dixon Water Foundation, where they learned about the use of Media Lunas — stone structures that help prevent soil erosion and support native plant growth. Experts from the Dixon Water Foundation and Rio Grande Joint Venture led discussions on grassland bird conservation, soil health, and sustainable grazing practices.
Participants observed a variety of native West Texas plants and wildlife, including American Pipits and an American Kestrel.
