Fort Stockton Independent School District has notified parents of allegations of educator misconduct involving a classroom teacher, according to a letter sent by Superintendent Dr. Gabriel Zamora on September 19, 2025.
The district stated that the allegations involved the teacher engaging in inappropriate conversations with students regarding topics such as dating, romantic relationships, and sexual orientation. Importantly, the investigation did not reveal any evidence of physical contact or abuse.
Upon being confronted with the allegations, the teacher resigned immediately. However, under Texas law, certain reporting requirements must still be followed regardless of the teacher’s resignation.
The district reported the case to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS), local law enforcement, the Texas Education Agency (TEA), and the Texas State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC). If SBEC substantiates the allegations, the former teacher’s certifications will likely be revoked, and the individual will be placed on the Texas “Do Not Hire” Registry, which bars employment in both public and private schools.
Dr. Zamora emphasized that while the news may be upsetting, transparency is important:
“You have allowed us the great privilege of trusting us with your child’s safety and well-being, and we work hard to continue to earn that trust.”
The district also noted that confidentiality laws, including Texas Education Code §21.355 and provisions of the Texas Public Information Act, prevent disclosure of the teacher’s identity at this time.
