The cattle are coming back to campus. Sul Ross State University will host its annual Campus Cattle Drive on Tuesday, September 23, at 6 p.m. on the UC Mall.
The tradition, tied to the university’s identity as the birthplace of college rodeo, is a hallmark event each fall. Longhorns and cattle will once again make their way through campus, celebrating the school’s ranching heritage and rodeo pride.
Organizers say the event isn’t just a spectacle—it’s a way to connect current students, alumni, and the community to the region’s ranching culture. The cattle drive also builds excitement ahead of Sul Ross’s rodeo season and other fall festivities.
With the slogan “This ain’t our first rodeo,” the university emphasizes both its deep history and its ongoing role in shaping college rodeo nationwide.
