Gage Hotel Expands with $3.5 Million Lodging Project in Marathon

The historic Gage Hotel is adding a major new chapter to its legacy with plans for a $3.5 million lodging property in the heart of town.

The project, known as Gage Los Arcos Quarters, will be built at Avenue B and 2nd Street NE. Construction is slated to begin in December 2025, with completion targeted for the end of 2026.

According to state filings, the one-story development will total 27,508 square feet and feature 24 guest rooms with on-site parking. The addition is designed to meet growing demand for lodging in the Big Bend region, where tourism continues to increase.

The expansion builds on more than four decades of restoration and investment by JP Bryan, who purchased the original Gage Hotel in 1978. Since then, Bryan has worked to preserve and enhance the historic property, which first opened in 1927 and has hosted figures from sculptor Gutzon Borglum to writer Zane Grey.

With the new Los Arcos Quarters, the Gage brand is continuing its role as a cornerstone of Marathon hospitality — offering visitors another option to experience the rugged beauty of Brewster County and the Texas Mountain Trail region.
