Big Bend education partners launch BB-RISE initiative with kick-off event

The Big Bend Rural Initiative for Success in Education (BB-RISE) held its official kick-off event this week, bringing together students, educators and community leaders from across the region.

BB-RISE is a collaboration between Alpine ISD, Marathon ISD, Marfa ISD, Sul Ross State University, Odessa College and the Education Partnership of the Permian Basin. The program expands post-secondary training in local high schools, currently offering Certified Nursing Assistant and Business Management pathways.

The event drew leaders from all three school districts, including Texas State Senator César Blanco, who addressed attendees. Students also shared how the new opportunities are preparing them for future careers.

Organizers credited BB-RISE Regional Director Jarrett Vickers for guiding the initiative, which has been in development for the past 15 months.
