A 22-year-old Fort Davis man has been arrested after allegedly breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s Midland apartment and sending her hundreds of unwanted messages, according to an affidavit obtained by NewsWest 9.
Midland police were called after the woman’s family reported that her ex-boyfriend, identified as Oscar Morales, had entered her home without permission. Police say the woman, who was away at the time, saw Morales on her apartment surveillance system and was too afraid to return home.
According to court documents, Morales and the woman ended their relationship in early August following an alleged assault during a trip to California. The woman told investigators she had made it clear she wanted no further contact and had asked Morales to move out of her apartment.
Despite this, the affidavit alleges Morales continued to harass her. Between Aug. 7 and Aug. 19, police say Morales sent around 300 text messages and 440 additional messages through another app. The woman admitted to occasionally replying out of fear that ignoring him would prompt him to show up at her apartment or workplace.
Investigators noted Morales also attempted to intercept her outside her apartment complex earlier in August, trying to stop her from leaving. On one occasion, police say he entered her home by twisting the deadbolt with his thumb to unlock the door.
After being read his Miranda rights, Morales reportedly admitted he knew he was not allowed inside but claimed he went in to retrieve a television.
He has been charged with stalking and burglary of habitation. As of Thursday, no bond had been set.
