The Terrell County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single-vehicle accident on Highway 90 east of Sanderson early Monday after a driver reportedly fell asleep at the wheel and veered off the roadway.
According to Sheriff Thaddeus Cleveland, no injuries were reported in the crash. Photos released by the Sheriff’s Office show the vehicle resting off the shoulder in brush along the highway.
The Sheriff’s Office emphasized the importance of driver safety on long stretches of rural highway frequently used by commuters traveling to and from the Permian Basin. Officials urged motorists to remain alert, take breaks as needed, and drive defensively to help prevent accidents.
“Thankfully, no injuries were reported,” Sheriff Cleveland said. “We want to remind everyone that many commuters travel our highways each day. Please stay alert, drive safely, and take breaks when needed.”
