Fort Stockton Biology Students Explore Enzyme Activity in Hands-On Lab

Students at Fort Stockton High School got a close-up look at enzyme activity this week during an interactive biology lab led by Mrs. Zeyen. The focus was catalase, an enzyme present in baking yeast that rapidly breaks down hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen.

Using balloons to trap the oxygen gas released in the reaction, students observed catalase in action and discussed its role in biological systems. The experiment sparked curiosity and excitement in the classroom, with several students expressing a newfound interest in pursuing science careers.
