Dylan Dawson Named Head Athletic Trainer at Sul Ross State

Sul Ross State University has announced the appointment of Dylan Dawson as the new Head Athletic Trainer and Senior Woman Administrator, effective mid-June 2025.

Dawson brings years of experience in athletic training and a deep connection to Far West Texas. She most recently served as Head Athletic Trainer for Weatherford ISD and previously as Co-Head Trainer. In addition to her new roles, Dawson will also oversee the Sul Ross Athletic Training Apprenticeship Program, which provides students the opportunity to earn clinical hours under certified athletic trainers and prepares them for Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) certification.

“I am grateful for this opportunity to be a part of SRSU athletics,” Dawson said. “Working at the secondary level has been incredibly rewarding… I loved my time as a college student-athlete and am very excited to build relationships and assist our Lobo athletes when they need help. Far West Texas is near and dear to my heart—I am ecstatic to get to call it home.”

Amanda Workman, Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics, praised Dawson’s early contributions: “Dylan has hit the ground running and made an immediate impact on our program in her short time here. We are excited to have her as part of our team and look forward to seeing where she takes the Athletic Training program.”

Dawson also brings extensive experience from her 12 summers spent at Prude Ranch in Fort Davis, where she served in various leadership roles including Assistant Camp Director. Her responsibilities there included medical care, staff training, trail guiding, and horsemanship instruction.

A former All-ASC Second Team golfer at Hardin-Simmons University, Dawson earned her Bachelor of Behavioral Science in Exercise Science and later a Master of Science in Athletic Training from Tarleton State. She was also a WGCA All-American Scholar from 2013–2016.

Her return to the Big Bend region marks a full-circle moment in a career rooted in both athletic excellence and service to youth.
