Tucked away in the Big Bend region, the historic adobe church El Corazón Sagrado de la Iglesia de Jesús stands as a symbol of endurance, community, and cultural heritage. Now, a local nonprofit is working to ensure its story continues for generations to come.
The Friends of the Ruidosa Church, a 501(c)(3) organization, is dedicated to preserving and restoring the iconic structure in Ruidosa, Texas. The group’s mission centers on stabilizing and revitalizing the site using sustainable methods and traditional adobe techniques, in accordance with the Secretary of Interior’s Standards for Historic Preservation.
The organization’s efforts are about more than bricks and mortar—they aim to create a meaningful gathering space while teaching time-honored skills and fostering community connection. Through restoration work, education, and local engagement, the Friends seek to honor the region’s past and deepen its cultural roots.
Membership is open to anyone who supports the mission, and donations help fund ongoing preservation work. To get involved or learn more, visit http://www.RuidosaChurch.org, call 432-244-6727, or email Ruidosachurch@gmail.com.
Together, the community can raise the bell, restore the walls, and protect one of West Texas’s most enduring landmarks.
