Greasewood Gallery to open Lisa Matta exhibition Aug. 29

Memories Past and Present, a solo exhibition by El Paso artist Lisa Matta, will open Aug. 29 at Greasewood Gallery inside the Hotel Paisano, 207 Highland Ave. An opening reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m.

On view through Sept. 27, the exhibition features a series of works inspired by Marfa’s architectural landmarks. Matta, whose family has lived in Marfa for generations, uses her paintings to bridge memory and place, honoring the town’s character while reflecting on its stories.

Her collection depicts vivid and thoughtfully composed scenes, balancing architectural precision with painterly texture to convey atmosphere. Her use of color infuses each piece with warmth and life, inviting viewers to connect with the locations portrayed.

Matta, who works full time out of her El Paso studio, is known for luminous, richly colored landscapes of the El Paso area, Arizona and New Mexico, as well as scenes of missions, adobes and cacti. She has exhibited in juried competitions and local museums in El Paso, is represented by galleries in El Paso and Tubac, Arizona, and is a member of the El Paso Plein Air Painters.
