The Borderlands Research Institute (BRI) at Sul Ross State University invites the public to attend the thesis defense of Andres Solorio Pulido, an M.S. candidate in Range and Wildlife Management. The defense will be held on Thursday, July 17, at 9 a.m. in RAS 130 on the Sul Ross campus.
Pulido’s research, titled “Habitat Restoration of Native Vegetation in Areas Invaded by Lehmann’s Lovegrass,” focuses on reversing the impacts of invasive species and restoring native West Texas habitat. Lehmann’s lovegrass, an aggressive non-native species, has spread across many rangelands in the region, posing serious challenges for landowners and wildlife alike.
The presentation marks a milestone in Pulido’s inspiring academic journey. Originally from another country, Pulido learned English and moved to the U.S. to pursue his dream of working in agriculture and conservation. His path has been shaped by lifelong friendships—most notably with Carlos Gonzalez, a high school friend who now works alongside him at BRI. Carlos’s father, Eduardo Gonzalez, also recently joined the team, bringing the journey full circle.
Pulido’s passion for natural resource stewardship was first sparked at the Gonzalez family ranch. His thesis is the result of years of hard work and deep-rooted commitment to the land.
