Big Bend Public Library Celebrates One Year of Mobile Service in the Big Bend Region

The Big Bend Public Library marked the first anniversary of its mobile library service on July 4, 2025, celebrating a year of bringing books and resources directly to remote communities in the Big Bend region.

Serving areas including Terlingua Abaja, Panther Junction, Lajitas, and Terlingua, the mobile library operates out of 5 Lynch Lane and is run entirely by volunteers committed to fostering literacy and lifelong learning.

The mobile service has expanded access to literature, audiobooks, and digital resources for residents in some of Texas’ most rural and isolated communities. It also offers outreach through school partnerships and regular stops at Canyon View Community Park, adjacent to Big Bend High School and Terlingua Elementary School.

The library encourages community support through donations, volunteer opportunities, and merchandise sales. Residents can visit bigbendlibrary.org to explore the online catalog, join the mailing list, or view the library’s wishlist.
