Historic 1925 Postcard Offers Rare Bird’s-Eye View of Alpine, Texas

A century-old postcard titled “Bird’s-eye View, Alpine, Texas” captures a striking southern panorama of the city as it appeared around 1925. Taken from an elevated vantage point, the image highlights Alpine’s early urban development with the Garnett Hotel prominently visible in the foreground.

The postcard, measuring 9 by 14 centimeters, provides a glimpse into the modest but growing townscape of Brewster County during the early 20th century. The view shows clustered buildings, housing structures, and the rugged mountainous terrain that defines the region’s geography.

Now part of the Clifford B. Casey Collection (1882–1981), the postcard offers valuable historical context to Alpine’s transformation over the past century. It serves as a visual record of community life, architecture, and the natural environment in Far West Texas during a period of steady growth and railroad-era expansion.

Subjects depicted include urban development, local housing, and the surrounding mountain landscape—elements that remain central to Alpine’s identity today. The image is preserved in English and is available through historical archives that document life in Brewster County and the broader Big Bend region.
