Marathon ISD Names Keith Kimbrough as New Superintendent

The Marathon Independent School District officially named Keith Kimbrough as its next superintendent during a school board meeting on May 6.

Kimbrough, currently a PK–12 principal at Martinsville ISD, will take over the role on June 2. He succeeds Dr. Ivonne Durant, who announced her retirement in February and will remain with the district through June 26 to assist with the leadership transition.

The selection followed a review of 17 applicants, with Kimbrough emerging as the unanimous choice after two days of interviews. Kimbrough brings five years of administrative experience and a background in teaching mathematics.

Kimbrough has led several initiatives at Martinsville ISD, including the P-TECH program and a three-year process to secure Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) recognition for the district, which helped yield a $1.5 million grant. He also oversaw the purchase of new infrastructure and school buses.

Kimbrough and his wife, Billie Kimbrough—who will join Marathon ISD as a third-grade teacher—have five children and grandchildren. Mrs. Kimbrough has a background in early childhood and elementary education and was hired by Dr. Durant.
