As the White House proposes defunding the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, Marfa Public Radio has launched its Spring Membership Drive, emphasizing its reliance on federal support to continue serving Far West Texas.
Unlike stations in urban areas, which often receive only 5% to 10% of their budgets from CPB, Marfa Public Radio says about 30% of its funding comes from the corporation. That support, the station notes, is rooted in the principle that all Americans—regardless of location—deserve free access to news and information.
“Our ability to continue our work significantly depends on support from our members and listeners,” the station said in a public statement. “We believe this region matters.”
