Texas Parks and Wildlife Gains Riverfront Land Near Big Bend

Texas Parks and Wildlife is adding 671 acres to the Black Gap Wildlife Management Area thanks to a donation from The Nature Conservancy in Texas.

The land, known as Heath Canyon Ranch, borders the Rio Grande just outside Big Bend National Park and includes a key river access point near the historic La Linda Bridge.

Though small compared to Black Gap’s 103,000 acres, the site provides public entry to the river, serves as a takeout spot for Boquillas Canyon float trips, and connects to existing river campsites.

The Nature Conservancy purchased the land with help from donors and support from King Land & Water. The land has long been used for public access and will remain open.
