Suspect Killed, Deputy Injured in Officer-Involved Shooting Near Iraan

The Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed Tuesday that an officer-involved shooting occurred during a traffic stop in Pecos County, leaving a sheriff’s deputy injured and the suspect dead.

According to DPS officials, the incident began when a Pecos County Sheriff’s deputy initiated a traffic stop near Iraan and was shot during the encounter. The suspect was later shot and killed.

The condition of the deputy has not been released.

As with all officer-involved shootings in Texas, the investigation has been turned over to the Texas Rangers.

Earlier in the day, Iraan-Sheffield Collegiate Independent School District briefly locked down its campuses out of precaution. The Pecos County Sheriff was reported to be en route to Midland, where the deputy had been transported.
