Rural healthcare in Jeff Davis County is taking a significant step forward with the arrival of a box clinic placed this week just west of the county courthouse near the Fort Davis Fire Department.
The 40-foot by 8-foot clinic is scheduled to open June 18 and will offer telemedical services, along with diagnostics and testing provided by intern physicians from Texas Tech University.
The project has advanced steadily over the past six months, moving from proposals and public meetings to this week’s physical placement of the facility.
Grant funding for the clinic comes from the Yarborough Foundation of Midland, which also contributed to its ongoing utility costs along with the FMH Foundation of Midland. The box clinic and its medical equipment were donated and furnished by Texas A&M University.
According to Jeff Davis County Judge Curtis Evans, a grand opening and dedication will take place in June. Intern physicians and members of their teams from Texas Tech University are expected to be on-site May 7 to complete setup and assess equipment in preparation for the clinic’s launch.
