It’s National Work Zone Awareness Week: Drive Like Lives Depend On It—Because They Do

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is reminding all Texans to do their part to keep our roads safe, especially in work zones where lives are on the line every day.

Move Over or Slow Down
Texas law requires drivers to reduce their speed by 20 mph below the posted limit—or move over one lane—when approaching police, fire, EMS, TxDOT vehicles, or tow trucks stopped with lights flashing.

Stay Alert
Avoid distractions. Put the phone down. Your focus should be on the road, not on a screen.

Slow Down in Work Zones
Speeding through construction zones puts workers and drivers at risk. Stay aware, obey posted limits, and watch for sudden changes in traffic flow.
