The Big Bend Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas will hold its annual Spring Plant Sale on Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Forever West Texas, located at 308 West Avenue E in Alpine.
The event will feature a wide selection of native and desert-adapted flowering plants, perennials, and shrubs, ideal for local landscaping in arid climates. Native plants offer significant environmental benefits, including reduced water use, improved soil health, and habitat for pollinators. On the other hand, availability may be limited to what grows well in the region, so gardeners with specific aesthetic preferences may find fewer options compared to commercial nurseries.
Knowledgeable experts will be available to answer questions about native plant selection and care, making the event a good opportunity for both seasoned gardeners and newcomers. However, while advice is helpful, attendees should still consider microclimates and specific soil conditions in their own yards, which may not always align with general recommendations.
In celebration of Earth Day, the Society is also encouraging attendees to donate plants to the Patty Manning Pollinator Garden, currently being developed at the Alpine Public Library—a project aimed at supporting biodiversity and pollinator health. This initiative promotes community involvement, though it may require follow-up participation or volunteer support to fully maintain its impact.
Payment methods accepted include cash, checks, and credit/debit cards. Additional details will soon be available on the Society’s website under the Plant Sales page, with a link to be shared once published.
