Sul Ross Plans to Boost Housing and Meal Plan Prices

Sul Ross State University students will see increases in housing and meal plan rates beginning Fall 2025, according to reporting by Viviana Sanchez of The Skyline.

Residence hall rates will rise by 6%, and meal plans will go up 3.6%. Housing costs last increased by the same percentage in Fall 2024.

The university says the additional revenue will support renovations at Fletcher Hall and cover ongoing maintenance in Lobo Village. Fletcher Hall is expected to reopen by August 2025 and remain the most affordable housing option, even as the rate rises from $117 to $175 per semester—a 36% increase. Planned upgrades include refreshed bedrooms and bathrooms, as well as a remodeled common area with possible additions like pool tables, ping pong, and TVs.

Twelve rooms in Lobo Village 2 are also being renovated due to water damage, receiving updates like new cabinets, countertops, and flooring. Further upgrades in Lobo Village are pending due to vendor delays.

The dining rate increase follows an agreement with ARAMARK tied to the Consumer Price Index and comes after a 4.6% increase in Fall 2024. Dining services have seen minor changes in food offerings and stations.

With tuition frozen for the next two years by the Texas Legislature, cost increases in other areas like housing and meals are expected to help the university meet financial needs.
