Unseasonal Snowfall Blankets Brewster, Presidio, and Jeff Davis Counties

An unexpected cold front has brought snow and freezing temperatures to parts of West Texas, including Brewster, Presidio, and Jeff Davis counties, on Saturday, April 5, 2025. Residents have reported snowfall across these areas, with images shared by Deputy Steve Marquez in Presidio County, as well as from individuals in the Davis Mountains and Alpine, confirming the accumulation.

The National Weather Service has issued a Freeze Warning for the region, effective until 10 a.m. CDT on Sunday, April 6, with sub-freezing temperatures as low as 17°F expected. Residents are advised to protect tender plants and ensure outdoor plumbing is safeguarded against the cold.

While snowfall in April is rare for West Texas, the current weather system has led to significant accumulations, particularly in higher elevations. The National Weather Service has reported heavy snow in the Guadalupe Mountains, with total accumulations between 3 and 7 inches, and winds gusting over 45 to 55 mph at times.

Authorities urge caution on roadways, as icy conditions may persist, especially in shaded areas and at higher elevations. Travelers are encouraged to stay updated on weather advisories and road conditions.

This unusual weather event offers a rare opportunity for residents and visitors to capture images of the region’s landscapes under snow. Community members are sharing their photos on social media, showcasing the unexpected springtime winter scenery.
