Alpine Animal Services has named Porky as its Pet of the Week and is offering a reduced adoption fee through Sunday, April 6. Porky can be adopted for $50, half the regular price.
Porky was brought to the shelter on January 27 after being found in the city limits of Alpine. He was initially spotted abandoned in the Country Club Estates area and evaded capture for several days. His companion, Sweetie, was caught a week earlier. Both dogs were found with porcupine quills in their faces, prompting an urgent rescue effort.
Despite his rough start and initial fear, Porky warmed up quickly once his injuries were treated and he was given food and care. Shelter staff say he is gentle with children and responds well to treats. He walks calmly on a leash and is friendly with volunteers. He also appears to be potty trained and eager to learn new tricks.
“Porky is a very sweet and happy boy who is always ready to greet you with a hug,” the shelter said.
Porky is available for adoption at Alpine Animal Services, located at 2900 Old Marathon Hwy, Alpine, TX 79830.
