In a recorded interview with Texas Office of the Attorney General prosecutors, Jeff Davis County Justice of the Peace Mary Ann Luedecke accused journalist David Flash of following her to a rodeo in Alpine and harassing her — despite offering no proof and eventually admitting she only found out about it later from someone else.
Here is Luedecke’s full quote from the January 9, 2025 interview with prosecutors Geoff Barr and Ian Martin:
“You have no idea. He followed me down to Alpine. We put on the Ranch Rodeo. We used to put on the Ranch Rodeo there every year. So he’s going down there, following me down there, asking people questions, you know, hounding you wherever you go, wherever you do business. He is always in your shadow. Always. It really calls for concern. But those are just the ones I happen to record. The other ones…”
The claim was made as part of a broader pattern of accusations against Flash, many of which have been contradicted by evidence or revealed to be unsupported. When asked later in the same interview whether Flash ever spoke to her at the rodeo or directly harassed her, Luedecke clarified:
“I found out later… like in this phone call, that he went to the rodeo board and talked to them. I don’t know.”
Flash categorically denies the accusation. “I’ve never followed her anywhere,” he said. “Nobody knew who I was. I’ve never been to the Big Bend Ranch Rodeo or tried to talk to her at any rodeo.”
Flash says he has only covered one rodeo event in person: the Sul Ross College Rodeo, and one related team event, the campus cattle drive. “I shot hundreds of photos and hours of video,” he said. “I was there doing journalism, with full credentials. I never saw or spoke about Judge Luedecke.”
He also noted that he has a friend who once served on a local rodeo board with Luedecke — and that they later resigned, citing constant acrimony between Luedecke and her husband. “That’s the only connection I’ve ever had to a rodeo board she’s on,” Flash said. “This story she’s telling is completely made up.”
The Texas Commission on Judicial Conduct is currently investigating Judge Luedecke’s conduct, following her admitted involvement in the creation of a false warrant against Flash. In that same January interview, she made several other accusations that have since been disproven or revealed to have no supporting evidence.
“This claim is false, like so many others,” Flash said. “I’ve never followed her anywhere. I cover public events. She’s turning normal reporting into imaginary stalking — and now it’s on tape.”
