Fort Davis ISD Superintendent Graydon Hicks, placed on paid administrative leave March 9, said Friday that he declined school board directives because he believed they would have violated district policy and state law.
After a closed session Friday, board members read a statement citing Hicks’ refusal to follow directives and past walkouts from meetings as reasons for placing him on leave. The board said it had “no knowledge of any illegal activities.”
Hicks said the board’s public statement disclosed confidential information and that he was ordered not to speak on the matter under threat of termination. Because he has not been fired, he is not entitled to a hearing under Texas law.
Community members were divided in public comments. Some defended Hicks’ long service; others criticized past incidents, including one parent’s complaint over how Hicks handled a dress code issue involving students at graduation.
The board also voted to hire J&P Advisory Group for financial and policy consulting. No contract details were provided. The next regular board meeting is set for April 14.
