Sul Ross State University to Launch Online MBA in Space Commerce in Fall 2025

Sul Ross State University will launch a new Master of Business Administration in Space Commerce in fall 2025, aiming to equip professionals in the growing space sector with essential business skills.

The new offering from the Rio Grande College of Business (RGCOB) is designed for working executives and will be delivered entirely online in eight-week course formats. University officials say the program will help address workforce needs in the rapidly evolving space economy, with Texas emerging as a national leader in the field.

“The MBA in Space Commerce provides individuals with the depth of business knowledge needed to advance to leadership positions in the industry,” said Dr. Thomas Matula, chair of the MBA program at SRSU’s Rio Grande College of Business.

Texas is home to five licensed spaceports—two within Sul Ross State University’s service region—and hosts major companies such as SpaceX, Blue Origin, Firefly Aerospace, and Intuitive Machines. In 2024, the state established the Texas Space Commission with a $350 million budget to accelerate the space industry.

The RGCOB, which serves students across Sul Ross campuses in Alpine, Eagle Pass, Del Rio, Uvalde, and online, emphasizes experiential business education and programmatic innovation. According to Dr. Sumantra Sengupta, founding dean of the RGCOB, the new program reflects the school’s commitment to delivering unique programs aligned with industry demand.
