Alpine Middle School Tennis Players Medal at Comanche Classic in Fort Stockton

The Alpine Middle School 7th and 8th grade tennis teams competed in the Middle School Comanche Classic Tennis Tournament on Saturday, March 22, earning strong results against a competitive field of 15 teams.

In 7th grade boys singles, Roman Holguin placed second overall after advancing through four matches. Holguin defeated Odessa Compass 6-2, Reagan County 6-4, and Andrews 4-2 before falling to Abell Junior High 1-6 in the championship match.

In 7th grade boys doubles, Rhyder Vasquez and Rueben Prieto won the consolation bracket. After dropping their first match to Andrews 3-6, the pair advanced through the consolation rounds, defeating Alpine teammates Christopher Cordova and Ty Ritchie 4-1 and topping Wink 4-2 in the consolation final.

Leah Struthers made a strong showing in the girls singles division, reaching the third round of the championship bracket. She opened with back-to-back shutout wins over Fort Stockton and Reagan County, both 6-0, before falling to Odessa Compass 1-6.

Coaches noted improvement in player movement and first-serve consistency, as well as strong sportsmanship throughout the tournament.

Next on the schedule for AMS tennis is the Fabens Middle School Tennis Tournament, set for Saturday, March 29, in Fabens, Texas.
