$8.2 Million, 10,000-Square-Foot Field Research Station Coming to Terlingua

A new 10,000-square-foot Field Research Station is set to be built in Terlingua, with construction beginning January 13, 2025, and completion expected by December 1, 2025. The facility will serve as a hub for outdoor research and education under the Texas State University System (TSUS).

The research station will include:

  • Classroom and laboratory spaces for faculty and students
  • Lodging facilities with basic accommodations and guest cabins
  • A communal kitchen and dining area
  • An outdoor cantina and covered patio spaces for collaboration
  • Vehicle storage and a workshop for research equipment

Purpose & Vision

The facility aims to support research, learning, and collaboration in the Christmas Mountains, providing students, researchers, and faculty with essential resources for environmental, geological, and biological studies while embracing sustainability and energy-efficient practices.

The Christmas Mountains Field Research Station will create a dedicated space for scientific research and environmental conservation in Far West Texas.
