Mexico Strengthens Consular Support for Nationals Along U.S.-Mexico Border

The Mexican government has enhanced its consular network in the United States to provide stronger support, protection, and legal defense for its nationals, regardless of immigration status. This effort, led by Foreign Minister Juan Ramón de la Fuente, includes a robust team of 4,383 personnel dedicated to safeguarding the rights of Mexican citizens abroad.

The initiative prioritizes Mexican nationals residing in the U.S., with a particular focus on those along the Texas-Mexico border. De la Fuente highlighted that Mexico’s 53 consulates, including those in border states, are bolstering efforts to ensure continuous communication with U.S. immigration authorities, such as ICE and CBP, under the guidance of President Claudia Sheinbaum.

Key updates include:

  • Digital Resources: The launch of the ConsulApp on Android provides access to vital information about rights and emergency contacts.
  • 24/7 Assistance: The Centro de Información y Asistencia a Personas Mexicanas (CIAM) in Tucson, Arizona, operates around the clock to assist nationals.
  • Legal Support: Partnerships with law schools, legal firms, and a team of 2,610 legal advisors are part of the consular network’s commitment to justice and advocacy.

These measures aim to reassure Mexican nationals that they are not alone, offering resources to navigate legal challenges and access crucial services.

For more information, Mexican nationals are encouraged to connect with their nearest consulate or utilize the ConsulApp for immediate assistance.
