Brewster County Jail Seeks Two Detention Officers

The Brewster County Sheriff’s Office is hiring for two Detention Officer positions at the Brewster County Jail. These roles offer a chance to serve the community by maintaining a safe and secure detention facility while upholding the standards set by the Texas Commission on Jail Standards.

Position Details

Chain of Command:
Detention Officers report to the Detention Corporal, Detention Sergeants, Jail Administrators, Chief Deputy, and Sheriff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily duties within the jail, including guarding assigned areas and ensuring safety.
  • Conduct headcounts, security checks, and investigations of incidents occurring within the facility.
  • Respond to emergencies, such as altercations or suicidal tendencies, and take appropriate action.
  • Transport prisoners, secure crime scenes, and prepare reports.
  • Maintain departmental equipment and enforce detention policies.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to make quick decisions and handle stressful situations.
  • Working knowledge of criminal and traffic codes.
  • Proficiency in computers and effective communication skills.
  • Must obtain a Basic Detention Officers Certificate within the first year, as per the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (T.C.O.L.E.).
  • Valid Texas driver’s license required; bilingual skills are a plus.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
