The Judd Foundation and Marfa Public Library (MPL) have teamed up to launch the innovative ‘Donald Judd Selections’ program, a unique initiative designed to connect the Marfa community with the extensive library collection of renowned artist Donald Judd.
Announced today, the program features a dedicated shelf at MPL, highlighting over 200 titles from Judd’s personal library housed at La Mansana de Chinati/The Block. These crossover books span topics like Texana, art, architecture, and non-fiction, offering library members a chance to delve into the same works that inspired Judd.
In an exciting addition, beginning January 2025, Judd Foundation will provide 20 free copies of a featured title from the shelf each month. Community members can register at MPL to claim a copy for their personal collections.
“The Marfa Public Library has always been a vital hub for our town, nurturing generations of readers,” said Rainer Judd, president of Judd Foundation. “We are thrilled to partner with MPL and hope this program inspires new readers with selections from Don’s library.”
The program builds on the 2022 launch of Judd’s searchable online catalog, which provides digital access to over 13,000 volumes in Judd’s collection. Through the WorldCat system, library users can even locate volumes at MPL and other institutions.
“This collaboration with Judd Foundation is a joy for us,” said Nicki Ittner, MPL director. “Donald Judd’s library is awe-inspiring, and it’s wonderful to share some of that legacy with our community.”
Made possible by a grant from the Texas Commission on the Arts, the program reflects Judd Foundation’s ongoing commitment to educational initiatives and resource accessibility.
