After nearly two decades at the helm of the Marfa Gallery Guide, Riley Stephens, founder and publisher, has announced plans to step away from the publication and pass it on to a new steward. The guide, a cornerstone of Marfa’s art and cultural scene, has been a labor of love for Stephens, who launched it almost twenty years ago.
Stephens, who also runs a successful collegiate-wear business, reflected on the decision: “Marfa is and will always be my hometown, but it is time to entrust the guide to someone who will continue its legacy.”
The guide’s journey has been intertwined with Stephens’s entrepreneurial pursuits, which began eight years ago with a clothing brand that grew from a side hustle into a multimillion-dollar business. Despite the demands of that success, Stephens has remained dedicated to ensuring the Marfa Gallery Guide reflects the unique spirit of the community.
The publication is now seeking its next leader—someone who shares a passion for Marfa’s art, dining, and hospitality scene, and has the skills necessary to manage all aspects of magazine production, from layout and design to print and distribution. Stephens emphasized the importance of finding a committed individual to continue the guide’s mission.
For those interested in taking on this role, inquiries can be directed to Riley Stephens at Blue Sky Productions. Stephens expressed optimism about the future of the guide, adding, “It has been an honor to steward this publication, and I’m excited to see where the next chapter will take it.”
