Eric Blum: Paintings Now on Exhibit at RULE Gallery in Marfa

RULE Gallery’s Marfa location is currently featuring Eric Blum: Paintings, a solo exhibition showcasing the artist’s latest work. This is Blum’s third collaboration with the gallery and his first in Marfa. The exhibition, which opened on November 29 with a public reception, will remain on view through February 15, 2025. Visitors can explore the gallery Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Blum’s paintings delve into the thresholds of perception, where the tangible and the ephemeral merge. Through his unique process, which incorporates ink-drenched silk and beeswax layers, Blum creates dreamlike compositions that blur form and abstraction. His works challenge traditional notions of accessibility in abstraction, inviting viewers to slow down and uncover meaning in the ambiguous and fleeting.

Blum’s artistic journey has been marked by both intention and serendipity, with each painting evolving from initial sketches into layered compositions through a series of deliberate transformations. The result is a collection of works that evoke a meditative space, balancing the real and the subconscious.

Blum, a California native now based in New York, has had a distinguished career with exhibitions across the United States and internationally. His work has been featured in prestigious venues such as the Albright-Knox Art Gallery and the Knoxville Art Museum and is part of numerous private and corporate collections. Blum has received notable accolades, including two Pollock-Krasner Foundation Awards and a New York Foundation for the Arts award.

RULE Gallery, founded in 1991 with locations in Denver and Marfa, focuses on contemporary artists, fostering innovative practices and long-term career development. For more details about the exhibition and the gallery’s programs, visit RULE Gallery’s website.
