The Douglas H. Thompson Road Rally (DHTRR) has released an updated itinerary for the Chihuahuan Desert Road Trip #2, scheduled for February 27 to March 2, 2025. Adjustments to the schedule allow for additional free time on Friday and Saturday while maintaining the rally’s scenic drives and social events.
Itinerary Overview
- Thursday, February 27, 2025: Check-in at the Desert Air Motel in Sanderson begins the event. Participants can enjoy dinner at the Ranch House Restaurant from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and spend the evening exploring Sanderson or relaxing outdoors at the motel.
- Friday, February 28, 2025: After breakfast at Ferguson Motors in Sanderson, drivers will meet for a short meeting before departing for Marfa via US 90, with a stop at Uncle’s Valero in Alpine. Lunch options in Marfa will be followed by a scenic drive north to Fort Davis, including a stop near the McDonald Observatory. The day concludes with ice cream at Jon’s Caboose in Fort Davis and dinner at Spicewood Bar and Restaurant in Alpine.
- Saturday, March 1, 2025: The day begins with breakfast at Penny’s Diner in Alpine, followed by a drive south to Terlingua and LaJitas. After exploring lunch options and scenic spots, the group will travel along the renowned River Road (FM 170) to Presidio, returning to Alpine for a relaxed evening.
- Sunday, March 2, 2025: The rally wraps up with breakfast at Magoo’s Place in Alpine, where rolling car show trophies and gift cards will be awarded before participants head home.
