Jesse Thomason from the US Border Patrol has noted a significant rise in migrant crossings within Big Bend National Park. According to reports, groups as large as 60 individuals are being deceived by smugglers who falsely inform them that they are entering a populated area.
These individuals are ill-informed by smugglers about the reality of the terrain and the isolation of the park, Thomason explained. The park’s challenging and remote environment poses substantial risks to those unprepared for its harsh conditions.
Thomason emphasized the legal risks involved, warning that entering the park illegally will lead to prosecution. This increase in illegal crossings has prompted calls for heightened surveillance and enforcement efforts to protect both the migrants and the integrity of the national park.
