In a surprising turn of events, the Big Bend Sentinel’s ambitious year-end donation campaign concluded without raising any funds. The campaign, which was prominently featured on the newspaper’s website with a dedicated banner, aimed to secure $18,000 to support its journalistic efforts throughout 2025 but ended with zero contributions.

Since its inception in 1926, the Big Bend Sentinel has served the Marfa and the Big Bend region, relying on community support to sustain its operations and maintain quality journalism. This year, the campaign offered multiple giving options, including online donations and checks, with the potential for tax deductions through its charitable fiscal sponsor, Tiny News Collective Inc.
Despite the well-organized campaign and the clear avenues for contributing, including detailed instructions for both tax-deductible and regular donations, community support was notably absent.
