Big Bend National Park is currently inviting outdoor enthusiasts to apply for a unique volunteering opportunity as Backcountry Patrol Volunteers. Volunteers will be responsible for patrolling 4×4 dirt roads by vehicle and hiking trails on foot. Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct vehicle and foot patrols in designated backcountry areas.

- Maintenance tasks including litter pickup, campsite repairs, and illegal campfire cleanup.
- Report road and campsite conditions to park dispatch and law enforcement.
Volunteer Requirements:
- Own a trailer or RV under 40 feet for accommodation, with full hookups provided free of charge at Rio Grande Village.
- Commit to 32 hours per week for the entire three-month term.
- Proficiency in driving 4×4 vehicles on rough terrains such as rock ledges and deep sand.
- Ability to perform vehicle recovery and tire changes in remote areas.
- Excellent communication skills to interact with park visitors.
