Sul Ross State University, located in the picturesque Davis Mountains of West Texas, is currently seeking a qualified Sports Information Director for its Athletics Department. This position offers a unique opportunity for professionals with a background in Communications or Sports Administration to lead the media and information strategy for the university’s intercollegiate sports programs.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Sports Administration, or a related field, coupled with 1-2 years of experience in a collegiate sports information department, either as a graduate assistant or a full-time assistant. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premiere Pro, InDesign, Illustrator), Stat Crew, NCAA Genius Live Stats, SIDEARM, and familiarity with current social media trends are essential.
A Master’s Degree in related fields is preferred but not required.
Responsibilities: The Sports Information Director will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of media and sports information related to the university’s 12 intercollegiate sports. This includes developing proactive media outreach programs, managing sports information functions, staffing and coordinating game statistics, maintaining the athletic website, preparing press releases, and overseeing the production of media guides and game-day materials.
Additional duties include supervising the Assistant Sports Information Director, Graduate Assistant, and student workers, as well as coordinating special athletic events like the Hall of Honor induction and fundraisers. The role requires attendance at all home sporting events and some travel for road events and tournaments.
Employment Conditions: New state employees will have a 60-day waiting period before they are eligible to enroll in health insurance. This position may require working evenings or weekends to cover events and involves light travel throughout the year for official university events.
