The Lobo Literati League is excited to present an evening with acclaimed author and Sul Ross State University faculty member Sid Balman. This special event will take place on March 6, 2025, at the Espino Conference Center starting at 7:00 PM.

Sid Balman Jr., a Pulitzer-nominated former national security correspondent and current Writer in Residence at Sul Ross, will share readings from his influential book “Algorithms” as well as excerpts from his latest work “The Mural,” which draws on the poignant themes surrounding the Uvalde shooting.

With a storied career that includes coverage of major conflicts around the globe and extensive travel with U.S. presidents and secretaries of state, Balman brings a wealth of experience and insight to his writings. After transitioning from daily journalism, he co-founded a news syndicate that focuses on the interests of women and girls and has held significant roles in communications and international development organizations.

Currently, as a Writer in Residence, Balman continues to contribute to journalism and magazines while engaging in academic and community activities in Alpine, Texas. He is also known for his adventurous spirit in climbing, surfing, and paddling, and his philanthropic support to education.

The Sul Ross and Alpine community are warmly invited to join this enlightening evening to delve into the narratives that shape our understanding of national security and human stories. This event promises to offer profound insights into the challenges and responsibilities of contemporary media and literature.
