The Alpine Cowboys have appointed Lance Myers as their new manager, making him the 14th in the history of the team. Myers steps up to the role after serving as the assistant manager in 2024, following the departure of Sean Persky, who led the team to two Pecos League championships during his five-season tenure.
Lance Myers is no stranger to the Cowboys or the league. He began his independent professional career with the Cowboys in 2017, playing as a key third baseman for the 2019 championship team. Myers rejoined the team in 2024 as Persky’s assistant, contributing significantly to their latest championship success.
During his playing career from 2017 to 2019 with the Cowboys, Myers achieved a batting average of .362 and accumulated impressive stats including 166 hits and 101 RBIs. His strategic approach to the game is reflected in his holding the Pecos League’s all-time record for career walks (266).
Myers also brings prior managerial experience from his time with the Roswell Invaders, where he served as a player-manager from 2021-2023, demonstrating his leadership capabilities with a Pecos League championship in 2022.
Reflecting on his new role, Myers expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming season and the team’s prospects. “Alpine has been home to me since my first season as a player in 2017,” Myers stated. “Working as the assistant under Sean Persky throughout the 2024 season was nothing short of amazing. I’m looking forward to getting this 2025 season underway as we have a solid core group of guys returning, along with a few new additions.”
Sean Persky praised Myers’ dedication and leadership qualities. “Lance is an extremely dedicated and hard-working individual, and I’m very excited that he will be taking over as the new manager for the Cowboys,” Persky commented.
Kristin Cavness, the general manager of the Cowboys, also voiced her support for Myers. “We are excited that Lance Myers has accepted the role of manager for the Alpine Cowboys. Lance has big shoes to fill, but I know that Sean Persky will be passing the torch to a very worthy coach. We are looking forward to the 2025 season!”
With Myers at the helm, the Alpine Cowboys are poised to defend their title and continue their tradition of success in the Pecos League under his experienced leadership.
