Fort Davis National Historic Site Implements Cashless Fee Collection System

Starting November 18, 2024, Fort Davis National Historic Site introduced a six-month cashless fee collection trial, moving exclusively to electronic payment methods for entrance and permit fees. This initiative aims to streamline operations and enhance financial accountability across the park.

According to the park’s Superintendent David Larson and Fee Manager Chelsea Rios, this new system will accept mobile payments such as Apple Pay and Google Pay, as well as traditional credit and debit cards. Visitors needing to pay with cash can still do so but must have the exact change.

The transition to a cashless environment is expected to reduce transaction times, save money, and improve overall accountability. It will also allow the park staff to allocate more time and resources towards enhancing visitor services and facilities, such as road and facility maintenance, trail improvements, and the installation of accessible exhibits.

Entrance fees collected are vital for the ongoing improvement of the park and the services offered to visitors. By reducing the time and resources spent on cash management, the park can increase the amount of revenue available to support these critical projects.
