Presidio High School Art Students Craft Festive Dishes for Unique Holiday Project

In a creative twist on holiday celebrations, Presidio High School art students embarked on a unique project that brought them together through the universal language of food. Under the guidance of art teacher Tamara Carrasco, students crafted intricate, non-edible dishes using a variety of materials, embracing the spirit of the season while fostering new friendships.

This innovative project, designed to coincide with the festive gatherings typical of November and December, encouraged students to step outside their usual social circles. Carrasco reorganized the students into new groups, mixing different friend circles to enhance interaction and camaraderie among classmates.

Using air dry clay, epoxy resin, plaster, celluclay, aluminum foil, various paints, and multiple types of glue, students meticulously created detailed food replicas. The only stipulation was that no real food items could be used, challenging the students to employ their creativity and artistic skills to achieve lifelike results.

The diverse array of materials allowed for a broad expression of texture and color, resulting in an impressive display of artistic culinary dishes that symbolized the warmth and togetherness of the holiday season. This project not only highlighted the students’ artistic talents but also served as a medium for building tighter bonds within the school community.
