Fort Davis Chamber of Commerce’s Website Sees Decline in SEO Performance

Recent reports from SpyFu SEO indicate a significant downturn in the search engine optimization (SEO) performance of the Fort Davis Chamber of Commerce website over the past year. This comes despite the chamber receiving over $100,000 annually from hotel occupancy tax (HOT) proceeds, funds that are integral to promoting tourism and local businesses.

In November 2023, the Fort Davis Chamber of Commerce website, FortDavis.com, was tracked with 3.76K SEO keywords and an SEO value estimated at $8.4K. However, by November 2024, these figures had plummeted to just 492 SEO keywords and a corresponding value of $661. This stark reduction highlights challenges in maintaining a robust online presence, critical for attracting tourists in an increasingly digital age.

In contrast, regional competitors have maintained or improved their SEO standings. The Big Bend Sentinel’s website, BigBendSentinel.com, slightly decreased from 13.2K to 12.7K SEO keywords but maintained a strong SEO value of $14.3K. VisitAlpineTX.com saw a notable improvement, climbing from 6.14K to 8.24K SEO keywords and from a $7.01K to an $11.1K SEO value.

The decline at FortDavis.com is particularly concerning given the investment and the importance of digital engagement in today’s travel planning landscape. With the county’s financial support intended to bolster tourism through effective online strategies, the current SEO performance suggests a potential reassessment of digital tactics might be necessary to better leverage these funds.

The Fort Davis Chamber of Commerce has not yet responded to requests for comments on their plans to address these SEO challenges. However, the need for a revamped digital strategy is clear if Fort Davis hopes to compete effectively in the thriving tourism market of West Texas.
